In this case the client was a co-educational 11–18 school and sixth form in the Southall area of the London borough of Ealing who recently gave us the opportunity to take over their maintenance contract.
THE CHALLENGE:
SEM Facilities now provide the school with many services, but in the first instance we are asked to attend after a major flood threatened to cause serious damage to the property and potentially cause a lengthy shut down of the school.
On a more general basis we were given various tasks such as testing the main heating plant, checking the installations in the classrooms and offices, and gas laboratory system testing. This included inspecting the fume cupboards that are used for testing chemicals and testing the bunsen burners in the labs.
OUR SOLUTION:
We were on site within a few hours and tackled the flooding within 24 hours, although the process required a further 3 full days of ventilation and dehumidification. We also checked the heating back-up systems and were able to offer the school a clean bill of health well within the required time scale and on budget.
We realise the importance of ensuring that school premises are safe and the importance of the investment in the next generation.
