SEM Facilities recently partnered with Woodside Contract Services to deliver an urgent, high-specification heating project within a traditional Victorian building in Greenwich.
Our working relationship began with a critical requirement: the installation of six designer Hudevad radiators, complete with bespoke matching thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs), all to be completed within a single day. Because Hudevad products feature premium designer styling and are largely hand-made, it was essential that our engineers handled each unit with the utmost care, leaving absolutely no margin for error.
Following the success of this initial installation, Woodside—whose prestigious client list includes Islington Borough Council—appointed us to undertake further complex mechanical works on-site.
The Challenge: Modernising a Victorian Heritage Building
The primary challenge for this secondary phase involved adapting a traditional Victorian building to accommodate modern facilities. The 19th-century infrastructure was never originally designed for the installation or maintenance of contemporary heating systems.
Our specific brief was to re-route existing pipework from a former mezzanine floor that was being converted into a new study area. This process required exposing the building’s impressive original Victorian domed ceilings and other delicate heritage features. The fundamental operational constraint was to execute the mechanical alterations while ensuring zero damage to the historic fabric of the property.
